A pro-family group finds it troubling that one California lawmaker admits his new bill would deliberately quench parental rights.
California Sen. Ted Lieu (D) admits that the entire purpose of Senate Bill 1172 is to halt parental rights. Larry Smith, chairman of The Family Action PAC, explains that the proposed measure would ban minors from receiving "gay"-to-straight therapy to prevent parents from "harming" their children. Adults would have to give written consent for such counseling. "It in fact appears most of the evidence supports the thesis or the concept that that lifestyle is the result of early childhood experiences," Smith notes. "If early childhood experiences tend to motivate a person in that particular direction, then it would seem reasonable … that proper therapy would help them get out of that particular lifestyle, which I don't care where you stand --there's no question that it's unhealthy." Lieu claims "preventive therapy hurts children," so his proposal would call the counseling "therapeutic deception" and "unprofessional conduct." The bill has passed in the state Senate and is currently before the California Assembly.
